8th May, 2022, IQ City Medical College Hospital, Durgapur Here’s a good news for nursing mothers visiting IQ City Medical College and Hospital, a breast/baby feeding room has been inaugurated today within the hospital premises on the occasion of ‘World Mother’s Day’. Worldwide, breastfeeding rates have dropped by 40-50% in some hospitals during the pandemic. Before the pandemic only 41% of babies in India breastfed within an hour of being born, a number that has slid lower during the pandemic. The reasons are numerous, but chief among them is the widespread separation of mother and baby at birth because of confusion over guidelines and deep fear. The government and related health institutions must ensure that every mother has access to credible and complete information about breastfeeding and provide legal, policy and infrastructural support to enable her to breastfeed wherever and for as long as she wishes to. As per reports of 2018 in India as per the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-4 (2015-16), only 41.6% children under three years were breastfed within one hour of birth while only 54.9% children were exclusively breastfed until six months. While this is a slight improvement over global statistics, it still means that nearly half of our children are not being breastfed as per the WHO guidelines. It will definitely help many mothers who are visiting the hospital where they will get a hygienic and safe place for feeding infants. As a representative of DMC, I appreciate hospital management standing for such a noble cause.” Prof. Goutam Ghosh – Principal IQ City Medical College & Hospital, Durgapur said, “Protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding will save more lives of babies and children than any other single preventive intervention. Globally, exclusive and continued breastfeeding could help prevent 13% of deaths among children under five years old. Breastfed children have fewer childhood infections, fewer chronic diseases, 3–5 extra points of IQ, higher earning potential, more opportunities to prioritize education, and healthier mothers”. Dr. Jayant Kumar Muduli- Paediatrician IQ City Medical College and Hospital said, “The room has facilities like a diaper-changing table, sofa sets specially designed so one can feed her baby comfortably. The room will allow privacy for a breastfeeding mother which is also very important. The idea behind the launch of the facility is to provide a safe place for nursing mothers and infants. Breastmilk protects infants from common childhood illnesses such as diarrhea and pneumonia – the two primary causes of child mortality worldwide. Longer duration of breastfeeding contributes to health and well-being of mothers as well, by reducing risks of breast and ovarian cancer, type II diabetes, and postpartum depression.” Miss Sudarshana Gangulee – Director of Mani Group said “ The idea of opening a Baby Feeding Room in the hospital came from the observation that while nursing mothers visit the hospital along with any patient or for the regular checkup of any newborn baby face discomfort during feeding their babies or changing diapers or even catch a breath. Privacy and Hygiene are the two basic rights that mothers should get anywhere in public places, but unfortunately, these two basic aspects are always neglected in public places in our country. Identifying this requirement for a lactating mother, IQ City Medical College Hospital took this unique step. IQ City Medical College Hospital pledges to bring many more such services dedicated towards the improvement of people of Durgapur & the adjoining areas, other than medical care and treatments which is the primary intention of the hospital.”

IQ City Medical College Hospital, Durgapur donated 100 jerseys to Paschim Bardhaman District Table Tennis Association in Sidhu Kanu Indoor Stadium for their players and coaching staffs. Sri Dhiresh Banerjee of PBDTTA profusely thanked IQ City management for stepping forward and supporting the aspiring Table Tennis players of Durgapur. IQ City representative assured PBDTTA to provide all possible medical support in future through various Health Camps. Aaham, Bhutu, Anushka (players) were overwhelmed to get the new club jersey.

World Health Day is celebrated every year on 7 April. In the face of the current pandemic, a polluted planet, and an increasing incidence of diseases, the theme for this year is ‘Our Planet, Our Health’. IQ City Medical College Hospital in association with Jemua Bhadubala Bidyapith celebrated World Health Day in the School premises. More than 150 students ranging from Class 5 to 7 attended an awareness session, where doctors and medical staffs of IQ City Medical College Hospital advised the students about various Covid and general hygiene protocols they need to follow while attending classes as well as in social gatherings. As we all know that children below the age group of 12 are not yet vaccinated, following the basic Covid protocols are very important for them as precautionary measures along with their parents. Children are more open to the virus as they are not mature to handle the situation by themselves. A talk on the topic ‘Healthy Mind Dwells in a Healthy Body’ shed light on the importance of healthy eating habits, adequate rest and personal hygiene. Students learned about common health problems, with an emphasis on good eating habits and the importance of sports & exercise in their daily lives, distinction between good and bad food. They also pledged to keep their mind and bodies healthy. Students arranged a rally in the school premises holding placards with slogans ‘Our Planet, Our Health’, ‘Eat Right Be Bright’ and ‘Good Health Adds Life to Years’. They enthusiastically recited the slogans as they went around the School. Sapling plantation by students was some other activities that were pursued to reiterate the importance of World Health Day. Jemua Bhadubala Bidyapith Headmaster Mr. Jianul Haque also apprised the students to follow a healthy lifestyle. Present doctors from IQ City Medical College Hospital Durgapur said ‘After reopening of schools, considering the risk factor, this is very important to look after the well-being of students, teachers, staff, and the wider community. We should help prevent a new outbreak of the latest variant XE of COVID-19 in the community. The use of masks is mandatory when a child is going to school, depending on their health condition and to restrict the transmission of the deadly virus within their community. Schools should also take adequate protective measures to reduce the risk of transmission and conduct periodical health talks and engage students in different activities to keep a healthy body and mind. Each child should be taught “HEALTH IS WEALTH”  

IQ City Medical College Hospital successfully hosted a Press Conference on 16 January 2021 on “Life with and after Covid”. The event was covered by the press extensively.

A 37- year-old female was recently admitted to IQ City Medical College Hospital, Durgapur, complaining of headaches over the past year which had been affecting her eyesight.

The patient’s moderate, intermittent headaches were not relieved by medication. Her condition was investigated and after a correct diagnosis, proper treatment was provided. An MRI showed a large mass lesion in the left occipital convexity which affected the occipital lobe and left cerebellum. The lesion was closely butting the left transverse sinus. Well-known neurosurgeon Dr. Navneet Kumar and his team successfully performed a difficult brain tumour surgery on her which lasted three hours. The efforts of our brilliant neurosurgery team helped her recover without any neuro deficit. The patient’s postoperative recovery was excellent. After being discharged, regular follow-ups show that she is totally symptom free.
